What is Kentfield like? Its everyday gathering places are a useful starting point: College of Marin, College Avenue cafés and Woodlands Market. This is a place to understand through ordinary stops as well as the surrounding landscape, rather than by looking for one long downtown shopping strip.

Kentfield: College Avenue, Neighborhood Stops and Local Memories

What is there to do around College Avenue?
Woodlands Market, at 735 College Avenue, combines groceries with a deli, bakery and coffee. It can be a sandwich stop as well as somewhere to fill a shopping basket. That combination makes it part of the day-to-day rhythm here.
Half Day Cafe is another College Avenue stop for a daytime meal. It offers a different reason to linger in the area instead of treating College Avenue only as a road between destinations. Check its current menu and service hours before planning a visit.
College of Marin adds an arts connection. Its drama program provides a place to look for performances and ticket information. A college campus is not automatically an unrestricted public recreation space; the published program is the right starting point for a theater visit.
Westin’s perspective
I moved to Kentfield after fifth grade and spent sixth through eighth grade at Kent Middle. I lived near College of Marin and used to bike through the campus to school, sometimes with a friend who lived down the street. I remember soccer on the school field and a woodshop class that has stayed with me.
After school, my friends and I would stop at Taqueria Mexican Grill on the corner of College Avenue and Sir Francis Drake for burritos and the arcade games. Kin Wah was another regular stop along Sir Francis Drake. Both restaurants are gone now, but they’re still part of how I remember those three years in Kentfield.
One afternoon, a friend and I stopped at Woodlands Market across from Kent Middle while it was pouring rain. We decided to get half-gallons of ice cream and eat them as we walked home, laughing along the way. Not exactly ice cream weather, but that’s one of the afternoons I still remember.
Where can you learn more about Kentfield’s history?
The Kentfield–Greenbrae Historical Society maintains an oral-history collection. Residents’ recollections give the area a different kind of detail from a list of landmark dates: changes in everyday life, places people remember and the connections between neighboring communities.
That is also a useful distinction when reading the personal section above. The former restaurants are memories, not suggestions for lunch today.
A nearby farmers’ market
For a market outing, Marin Country Mart in Larkspur, not Kentfield, hosts a year-round market Saturdays, 9 a.m.–2 p.m., at 2257 Larkspur Landing Circle. The operator’s page lists produce, prepared foods and other vendors.
Market details checked October 5, 2026. Check the operator for holiday closures or schedule changes.
Kentfield and its neighbors
Kentfield and Greenbrae share parts of everyday life, but their guides have different centers: College Avenue here, Bon Air in Greenbrae. Larkspur’s downtown is another separate destination. Keeping those distinctions makes it easier to explore without mistaking a nearby attraction for something in Kentfield itself.
