Point Richmond: Village Streets, Coffee and the Shoreline
Point Richmond is part of the City of Richmond, not a separate incorporated town. The City's historical introduction identifies it as one of Richmond's earliest communities and notes its Victorian-style character. It also has its own identity apart from Richmond Marina Bay, which is covered separately.
Westin's perspective: a place to slow down
Point Richmond has always felt a little sleepy to me, in a way I enjoy. I remember visiting a friend's house and walking down to Extreme Pizza together. More recently, I have spent time working at Kaleidoscope Coffee. I like its relaxed atmosphere and the way it feels like a gathering place.
I also enjoy going through the tunnel and spending time along the Point Richmond shoreline at dusk. The café, the village streets, and the water each give a different reason to come back.
Coffee and games on Park Place
Kaleidoscope Coffee, at 109 Park Place, is a café with indoor and backyard space. It is somewhere to have coffee and spend time, with the operator providing current seating and backyard information rather than promising a reserved workspace.
The events page lists game night, open mic and comedy. Along with the board games, those activities help explain its gathering-place role. Check the café's current calendar for a particular performance or activity.
Farther along Park Place, Extreme Pizza is at 151 Park Place, with dine-in and takeout. It gives this stretch another casual meal option alongside the café.
Outdoor music brings a different energy to the center
Point Richmond Music organizes free outdoor concerts at Park Place and Washington Avenue. Its 2026 season included blues, Americana, Mexican roots music and other styles. On concert evenings, this small commercial center becomes a performance setting, giving the neighborhood an identity beyond a quiet daytime café stop.
The 2026 summer series has concluded. Check the organizer for the next announced season rather than treating a past date as an upcoming event. These concerts are distinct from a weekly farmers' market.
Through the tunnel to Miller/Knox
Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline lies along Dornan Drive, beyond the tunnel from Garrard Boulevard. The East Bay Regional Park District describes picnic lawns around a saltwater lagoon, a walking and cycling loop, hillside trails and Bay views. That mix gives the shoreline more than one pace: time beside the lagoon or a walk into steeper terrain.
Keller Beach is at the park's northern end, while Ferry Point is farther south. The lagoon, beach and hillside paths give this side of Point Richmond a different setting from the storefronts around Park Place.
Use the Park District's current access and trail information for a visit. If swimming is part of the plan, check its linked beach conditions: shoreline beaches have no lifeguards.
A nearby market option in Marina Bay
Elsewhere on Richmond's waterfront, the Marina Bay Farmers' Market operates Sundays, 10 a.m.–2 p.m., in the Marina Bay Park parking lot off Regatta Boulevard and Melville Square.
